Automating NMVTIS Compliance in Your Yard Workflow
December 18, 2025 · 3 min read
NMVTIS (National Motor Vehicle Title Information System) requires junk and salvage yards to report vehicles they acquire for scrap or salvage. Missing a filing means potential fines. Doing it manually means one more thing to remember at the end of a busy day.
The Manual Filing Problem
In most systems, NMVTIS filing is a separate process. Someone has to log into a provider portal, enter VINs, submit the filing, and track the status. It's disconnected from your yard workflow — meaning vehicles can move to crush without ever being filed.
Workflow-Triggered Filing
In UpLift, NMVTIS filing is an automation action attached to your workflow. When a vehicle enters your "Crush" or "Scrap" step — whatever you've named it — a pending filing is queued. You export a CSV batch from the compliance dashboard and mark it submitted. Direct provider APIs are not connected yet.
- Workflow queue — Crush or scrap creates a pending filing so vehicles are not forgotten.
- CSV export — Download a batch for the NMVTIS provider you already use.
- Status tracking — Pending, submitted, accepted, rejected — all visible at a glance.
- Retry and re-export — Failed or pending rows can be exported again from admin.
- Full filing history — Complete audit trail for every submission.
- Compliance dashboard — One-page view of your filing status across all vehicles.
Compliance as a Side Effect
The best compliance is compliance you don't have to think about. When filing is embedded in your workflow as an automation trigger, it happens as a natural part of vehicle processing. Your team doesn't need to remember a separate step — the system handles it.
